Triathlon’s elite athletes will be making a splash at the University of Nottingham as the University becomes the ‘Official Training Venue and Education Partner’ of the Accenture World Triathlon Mixed Relay Nottingham.
A top-20 ranked university, the University of Nottingham will host the teams for vital swimming time in the build up to the event at their world class David Ross Sports Village. The athletes will be diving into the swimming pool at this brand new, state of the art, sports facility which boasts a range of indoor and outdoor facilities. Also home to a sports injury clinic and high-performance zone, the University of Nottingham took second in the overall British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) Championships in 2018/19 and is fourth on the all-time rankings having been part of the founding group in 1919.
The £40 million venue provides the athletes with the elite level facilities they require to train for an ITU World Series event, whilst also remaining open to the community for casual bookings, swimming lessons and exercise classes.
The only pure Mixed Relay event on the World Series calendar provides a great opportunity to see some of the world’s top triathlon talent from the Victoria Embankment or P20 Grandstand. However, if you fancy taking on the triathlon challenge yourself, now you can! With opportunities for novices to enter the GO TRI, Sprint Relay and Open Sprint, plus the British Triathlon Sprint Distance Championships for the more experienced triathlete, why not get involved with the action and enjoy a post-race massage from the University once you’ve crossed the line?
Dan Tilley, University of Nottingham Director of Sport said of the partnership “We are delighted to be the Official Training Venue and Education Partner for the Accenture World Triathlon Nottingham, particularly in a year that has seen University named Sports University of the Year.
