Are you starting a training plan for the first time? Here some tests to do to test you fitness before you start.

Well done on entering the Go Tri in Nottingham

300m swim       9K bike        1.5 mile run

Ways to track your progress - It’s a great thing to do at the start or 6 weeks in and then just before the event. I would suggest you do them in week 1 and week 6

Swim – This can be done by choosing a distance to time yourself over or ideally do a CSS test. It’s a simple and effect way to train too

Bike – Again this can be done by choosing a distance or if you can get to a watt bike do a FTP test on a Watt bike

Run – This one maybe the easiest to do as you can run whatever distance you want and then use the VDOT

Questions to ask before you get started?

Do you have any injury niggles? If so it’s worth getting someone to have a look at them for you. It would be a shame not to get to the start line
Do you like to train with others or alone? If with others then why not come and join me and some of the other coaches at TFN or other local clubs that can be suggested
Do you have the kit you need? Clubs like TFN have bikes for you to loan to make sure you like the sport before you hit that credit card

There are so many clubs locally that host a full programme of training that you can get involved in and are perfect for beginners, being apart of a club is also a great start to keep you motivated and discover new fun ways to training and mix up your sessions.
